Dr Amit Bahl

Amit Bahl is Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Clinical Director based at The Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre.

Dr Bahl has a special interest in breast and urological cancers.

He has led and developed the prostate brachytherapy service at Bristol.  He has been an expert adviser to NICE for the technology appraisal on new drugs and an external service reviewer. He has been awarded the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr Bahl is a current member of the National Cancer Research Institute for prostate and bladder cancer, and has supervised several research projects. He has previously been in the NCRI Renal clinical studies group. He is an Executive Committee member of the British Uro-oncology group. Dr Bahl is actively involved in research into breast, prostate and bladder cancers, participates in clinical trials and regularly publishes articles and has several presentations at national and international meetings.

In 2012, Dr Bahl was awarded the Cochrane Shanks Jalil Professorship by the Royal College of Radiologists, London.

Mr Amar Deshpande

Mr Amar Deshpande is a Consultant Breast Surgeon based at Wigan Wrightington and Leigh NHS Trust.

Mr Deshpande completed his basic surgical training in B Y L Nair Hospital (affiliated to University of Bombay), Mumbai. He was trained as a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery subspecialty Breast Surgery at West Midlands Deanery, Birmingham.  He completed his fellowship in breast reconstructive and cosmetic surgery (Oncoplastic Fellowship) and was appointed Consultant Breast Surgeon at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust in January 2010 and is also an examiner for The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for MRCS exams.

Mr Deshpande is an Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon in Lancashire and also lead clinician in breast surgery. He deals with all aspects of breast problems including management of benign breast problems, breast cancer and breast reconstruction (Latissimus Dorsi, TRAM, implant based with or without biological mesh) and therapeutic mammoplasty. He also performs cosmetic breast surgery (breast augmentation, breast reduction, mastopexy, nipple reconstruction, nipple areolar tattooing). He performs lipotransfer for correction of deformities after breast surgery and for natural breast augmentation.

Dr Hosney Yosef

Dr Hosney Yosef is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Beastson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

Dr Yosef qualified from the University of Cairo Medical School in 1965 and has practised for over 30 years at the Beatson. He has played a leading role in the development of services with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, particularly in breast and gastrointestinal cancer as well as head and neck malignancy. 

Dr Yosef has developed specialised expertise in breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and gastrointestinal malignancy (both upper GI and colorectal). He has served as a member of the Medical Research Council, the Faculty Board for Clinical Oncology of the Royal College of Radiologists, the Council and Oncology Committee of the British Institute of Radiology (Chairman), The West of Scotland Managed Clinical Network and the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) Scottish Audit Group. Previously he was President, Secretary and Member of the Council of the Scottish Radiological Society.

Mr Hemant Singhal

Mr Hemant Singhal is a Consultant Breast Surgeon based in London.

Mr Singhal is a graduate and postgraduate of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He trained in general surgery and surgical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, and St George's registrar rotation. He was a Fellow in surgical oncology at Strang-Cornell Cancer Center in New York, Cornell University, and a lecturer in surgical oncology at the University of Western Ontario. His further training was in breast and reconstructive Surgery in the Cardiff Breast Unit. His clinical interests include: Early diagnosis of breast cancer; Screening of women at high risk family history; Treatment of all breast diseases; Sentinel node biopsy; Breast conservation and oncoplastic breast surgery and Personalisng breast cancer treatment

He is an accomplished and recognized breast specialist who was instrumental in setting up the sentinel node program in North West London. He is passionate about breast conservation with an oncoplastic approach and the early diagnosis of breast cancer. 

Mr Hermant has memberships for theAssociation of Breast Surgery and the UK British Association of Surgical Oncology.

Dr Grainne Dunn

Dr Grainne Dunn is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Beatson West Of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow.

Her areas of clinical practice are in the management of breast and colorectal cancer. Dr Dunn is Oncology Lead for the West Of Scotland Colorectal Managed Clinical Network.

After studying medicine at Dundee, Dr Dunn trained in HIV medicine before completing oncology training as the McMillan Fellow at the Beatson Oncology Centre. She also completed a clinical attachment in radiotherapy planning at the Mater Hospital, Newcastle, Australia.

Dr Dunn has interests in clinical trials and, particularly, those involving systemic therapies for breast cancer, and cytotoxic chemotherapy for colorectal cancer. She is Principal investigator in various clinical trials.

Prof David Dodwell

Professor David Dodwell is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Leeds Cancer Centre/Institute of Oncology St James Hospital where he is Lead Clinician for Breast Services.

He is Chair of the Yorkshire Breast Cancer Research Group and holds a visiting Professorship at Sheffield Hallam University.

At Leeds General Infirmary in conjunction with his clinical and specialist nurse colleagues he has developed a service with the elements of MDT practice and meetings, prospective organisation of data collection to facilitate audit and activity analysis and protocols for diagnosis, therapy, communication and integrated follow-up.

He sees 520 new patients per year and accepts 40 cross referrals. He supervises systemic therapy and radiotherapy for patients with early and recurrent disease.

Professor Dodwell is the lead oncologist on the Sloane Group. This group audits the outcome of screen-detected DCIS within the UK. With data on over 9000 patients collected over 7 years. The group has published data on diagnostic processes, patterns of care, variability in surgical, endocrine and radiotherapeutic interventions, recurrence and mortality.

Professor Dodwell is the oncologist on the UK Breast Cancer Screening Audit Group with responsibility to contribute and co-ordinate the audit function of the UK Breast Screening Programme. Data is collected and analysed concerning all aspects of UK breast screening including patterns of care, case volume and outcome. An annual report is produced.

Within the Faculty of Clinical Oncology - Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) he is the member with responsibility for co-ordinating the functions and determining the policy of the RCR in relation to oncology including training, examinations, professional standards, audit, research, accreditation and response to national initiatives. He is co-chair of a group charged with the revision of advice to oncologists acting as expert witnesses. He chairs the Site Orientated Electronic Network for breast oncology within the RCR.

On the Joint Council for Clinical Oncology (JCCO) Professor Dodwell represents the Royal College of Radiologists. This group allows liaison and co-operation between Clinical and Medical Oncology the two specialties involved in solid tumour oncology within the UK. The predominant functions of JCCO are service configuration and standards of care.

He is involved in the development and implementation of a nationally agreed national data set on the National Chemotherapy dataset group working to capture and analyze the use of systemic therapy in solid cancer and haematology. From April 2011 the collection of this data became mandatory.

Professor Dodwell is chair on the Breast Tri-network group, which comprises of 35 breast oncologists across the Yorkshire, North Trent and East Riding Cancer Networks. They assess new interventions, determine regional policy and co-ordinate and prioritize applications to the Interim Cancer Drug Fund.

He leads the oncology group of the Yorkshire Cancer Network and has co-ordinated the implementation of guidelines for the use of aromatase inhibitors, herceptin, bisphosphonates and taxanes as adjuvant therapy. He organises the national educational meeting for this group.

He has close associations with Breast Cancer Haven (Leeds). He is involved in fundraising events and their educational programmes.

Mr Sumohan Chatterjee

Mr Sumohan Chatterjee is a Consultant Breast Surgeon based at Manchester Foundation Trust, South Manchester.

After working as a Research Fellow at the Academic Surgical Unit in Hull University, Mr Chatterjee was appointed as a Higher Surgical Trainee in the North West Deanery. Mr Chatterjee undertook specialist training in breast surgery at Bolton Hospital and South Manchester University Hospital.

Later Mr Chatterjee was appointed to the prestigious National Fellowship in oncoplastic breast surgery in Sheffield where he worked with the plastic surgery team with the emphasis of training on breast reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery.

After initially working as a consultant at Stepping Hill Hospital (under the new consultant entry scheme) in 2004 he moved to the substantive post of Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Salford Royal Foundation NHS Trust in April 2005.

He offers modern reconstructive techniques using Strattice and TiLOOP and specialises in drain free mastectomy.

Dr Shan Chetiyawardana

Dr Shan Chetiyawardana is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Dr Chetiyawardana has been in post as a Consultant Oncologist at the Queen Elizabeth since 1983, providing oncology services including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and targeted therapy for breast, lung and urological tumours at Walsall Manor and Queens Hospital, Burton. He conducts seven clinics and attend 6 MDT per week. 

Dr Chetiyawardana is the service lead for Radiotherapy and Chairman of the Oncology Executive Committee at University Hospital Birmingham. He is also the Honorary Senior lecturer at Birmingham University, and a member of the MAC at Spire Little Aston Hospital and lead clinician for Cancer at Spire Little Aston.

Dr Chetiyawardana is a member of Royal College of Radiologists and the International Association for Lung Cancer.

Dr Richard Welch

Dr Richard Welch is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Welch studied Medicine at Birmingham University obtaining MBChB in 1983. He trained in Clinical Oncology receiving his Specialist Qualification in 1996.

Richard is the Lead clinician for female germ cell tumours at The Christie with a wide experience of chemotherapy. In addition he has over 10 years experience as Chair for Christie Drugs and Therapeutics committee for The Christie.

Dr Welch has had a significant input into oncology services in Bolton NHS, breast ovary, testicular cancer and acute oncology . 

He has Published and Contributed to many accredited Publications including:

‘outcomes after multiple lines of chemotherapy for platinum-resistant epithelial cancers of the ovary, pertioneum, and fallopian tube.’ (Jan 2011) : ‘The management of poor prognosis tertoma.’ (March 2010) : ‘SCOTROC 2B: feasibilty of carboplatin followed by doxetaxel-irinotecan as first-line therapy for ovarian cancer’ (Jan 2006) : ‘Stage- and CA125- related survival in patients with epithlial overian cancer treated at a cancer centre.’ (2006) and many more.
