Dr Shabbir Susnerwala

Dr Shabbir Susnerwala is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Dr Susnerwala qualified in oncology at Bombays largest cancer hospital, the Tata Memorial Hospital and was appointed as a consultant oncologist in 1989. He decided to move to the UK in 1992 and joined Europe's largest cancer centre, The Christie Hospital, Manchester where he consolidated his oncological experience. In 1996 he was appointed as Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the newly established Rosemere Cancer Centre.

He specialises in the treatment of Colorectal, Breast and Urological cancers. His expertise have been widely sought for many years both in clinical practice and education and he has held a number of positions that reflect this. These include Clinical Director for Oncology Services, Educational Supervisor, College Tutor (Royal College of Radiologists), Overseas Doctors Mentor, Member of Postgraduate Committee (Royal Preston Hospital), Audit Lead for Oncology,  Lead Cancer Clinician for Lancashire Teaching Hospital chain and is a member of the Clinical Governance Committee for Oncology.

Dr Susnerwala is a member of The Royal College of Radiologists and speaks English, Gujarati and Hindi.

Dr Martin Hogg

Dr Martin Hogg is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital (Lancaster Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

Dr Hogg qualified from Oxford University in 1990 having developed a particular interest in Oncology. In additional to his medical studies, he took a degree in physiological sciences specialising in cellular physiology, biology and immunology as well as undertaking some undergraduate research work developing a novel technique for assessing reflux of ions across cell membranes. He continued his medical studies at St Bartholomews Medical School in London qualifying in 1993 as a doctor from the University of London. 

Continuing in Oncology, his first position was in the field of leukaemia and lymphoma working under Professor Rohitiner and Professor Lister at Barts, London. Following general medical training as a Senior House Officer in the Leicestershire rotation he moved to the Christie Hospital in Manchster as a Specialist Registrar in Oncology.

During his time at the Christie he obtained a wealth of experience in treating all tumours using the treatment modalities of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During his time, he undertook some research including phase one research for new chemotherapy treatment regime in colorectal cancer and in the management of central lines. He has had abstracts presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting and has co-authored a chapter on the management of cancer of the stomach. 

In the latter part of his training he developed a particular interest in breast and gynaecological malignancies. 

He was appointed Consultant at the Rosemere Cancer at Royal Preston Hospital in 2003 and was closely involved in the reconfiguration of the management of breast and gynaecological malignancies.

He is continuing to work to improve the standards of oncological care in those areas addressing issues that are reflected in the North West Cancer Plan and the Cancer Reform strategy such as developing the provision of local administration for chemotherapy, as close to the patients home as possible and access to high quality image guided radiotherapy. 

He is currently Lead Clinician for breast cancer at the Rosemere Cancer Centre and Clinical Director of the centre. He has also been Chair of the Breast Cancer Network Site Specific Group for many years. In addition to the standard clinical roles he has run a conference for numberous years, for Breast Care Nurses in the North of England, offering updates and education. 

He has worked closely with Dr Louise Foreman, a palliative care consultant colleague and has set up a National palliative Care Conference aimed at providing an Oncological update for palliative care consultants and specialist registrars. 

Dr Hogg also leads Lancashire and South Cumbria Network in the Tri-network Meetings along with the Mersey and Greater Manchester groups and in 2008 organised and chaired the Tri-Network Meeting.

He Speaks two Languages, English and French and has been Awarded a Undergraduate Orthopedics Prize.

Dr Marcus Wise

Dr Marcus Wise is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston.

Dr Wise qualified at Manchester Medical School in 1990.  After training in general medicine and surgery he took up a registrar post in oncology at the Christie Hospital.

He has extensive experience in a wide range of tumour sites involving use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with a special interest in lower gastrointestinal, urological (including renal carcinoma) and upper gastrointestinal.

He was appointed to a Consultant post at Royal Preston Hospital, Rosemere Cancer Centre, with peripheral clinics at Blackburn and Burnley in 2002.

Dr Elaine Young

Dr Elaine Young is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital.

Dr Young qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1988 and gained considerable experience in the field of oncology. She went on to a two year Senior House Officer rotation in general medicine in Liverpool and one year as a Medical Registrar in North Wales. Dr Young first worked in oncology with Trevor Powles at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Undertook Registrar training in clinical oncology at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, before joining the Royal Preston Hospital in 2000 as a Consultant Oncologist, specializing in Breast Cancer, Upper GI Cancer, Chemotherapy & Radiotherapy.

Dr Youngs specialises in Clinical Oncology involving the use of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, endocrine and targeted therapies in the treatment of malignant conditions. She enjoys teaching and is currently involved in the development of undergraduates and postgraduates.

She was Awarded the Henry Briggs memorial medal, in 1998 and the Red Rose Hero award, in 2007.

Dr Andrew Hindley

Dr Andrew Hindley is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital.

Dr Hindley qualified at Birmingham University Medical School in 1977, having been on a travelling scholarship to Malaysia. His elective was spent in oncology at the University of Heidelberg. After training in General Medicine he worked at the Christie Hospital in Clinical Pharmacology, learning how to use anti-cancer drugs, safely and effectively, and carried out research into hormone therapy of breast cancer. He then underwent training in radiotherapy and first became a Consultant in New Zealand prior to taking up his current consultant appointment at Royal Preston Hospital in 1997. 

His clinical interests are in breast cancer, lung cancer, gynaecological, central nervous system and skin cancer. He is actively involved in research into new treatments and training medical students and junior doctors.

His publications have covered hormone therapy and breast cancer, radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer and head and neck cancer, and chemotherapy for gynaecological cancer. His clinical interests are in breast cancer, lung cancer, gynaecological, central nervous system and skin cancer.

In addition to his clinical role Dr Hindley is the Network Clinical Lead for Research and is committed to improving cancer treatment and supportive care for patients in clinical trials. His particular research interests include chemotherapy for platinum resistant disease in ovarian cancer, overcoming unwanted effects of radiotherapy and development of new treatments for brain tumours.
