Dr Kim Linton is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Linton was awarded a medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 1994 and emigrated to the UK in the following year. She was a senior house officer in both Oncology and Palliative Medicine at Cookridge Hospital and Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds between 1997-2000 and then went on to be a Specialist Registrar in Medical Oncology at The Christie in 2000. In 2007 She gained her PhD in molecular pathology from the University of Manchester. Dr Linton was appointed in 2009 as an honorary medical oncology consultant in Lymphoma at The Christie.

Dr Linton works as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Lymphoma at The University of Manchester and The Christie Foundation Trust in Manchester. She co-leads the Medical Oncology Lymphoma Team, caring for patients with all lymphoma diagnoses excepting those that are HIV associated.

Her main research interests include the technical development of gene expression technologies for formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue, blood and tissue-based lymphoma biomarker research predominantly in rare lymphoma subtypes and in the prevention and early detection of late effects of treatment, and prognosis and treatment of lymphomas. She is a member of the NCRN lymphoma low grade and biology subgroups.

Dr Linton is a member of Royal College of Physicians, Association of Cancer Physicians, Medical Protection Society, National Cancer Research Network low grade and biology subgroups, MCRC Lymphoma Biobank Board, Salford Citizen Scientist Committee, Lymphoma Translational Research Group (chair), Christie Undergraduate Board and the Critical Care Delivery Group

As well as speaking English Dr Linton also speaks Afrikaans.

Mr Ashu Gandhi is a Consultant Surgeon based at the Nightingale & Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre, a recognised centre of excellence based at the University Hospital of South Manchester.

This is one of the largest Breast Units in the UK and also one of the busiest breast screening units, receiving referrals from across Greater Manchester and the North West. 

Mr Gandhi is Quality Assurance Surgeon for the North West Breast Screening Quality Assurance team which acts to ensure consistent and high standards of care for women undergoing breast screening in the region. He sits on the Audit & Screening Committee for the Association of Breast Surgery. In addition Mr Gandhi is a member of the Breast Cancer Family History service at the Nightingale & Genesis Centre and member of the Medical Board of The Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Charity. 

Mr Gandhi is also fully trained and accredited in Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery. He runs a busy Endocrine Surgery practice at University Hospital of South Manchester and is a core member of the Greater Manchester & Cheshire Thyroid Cancer Team. He is Secretary for the British Association of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgeons and has contributed on their behalf to the British Thyroid Association treatment guidelines.

Mr Gandhi is a member of the Association of Breast Surgery and the British Association of Endocrine & Thyroid Surgeons.

Professor Robert Hawkins is a Professor of Medical Oncology based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Prof Hawkins attended medical school at Cambridge University and University College London and trained in Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and obtained a PhD in antibody engineering at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, where he was a Fellow with Dr Greg Winter and Dr Cesar Milstein. As a Cancer Research UK Senior Clinical Fellow he developed translational research interests in antibody based gene therapy. He was appointed as a Consultant in Medical Oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in 1995 and then became Professor of Oncology at the University of Bristol in 1996 before undertaking his current role at the Christie as Professor of Medical Oncology in 1998.

His main clinical interests are in renal(Kidney)/adrenal cancers, focusing on immunotherapy. He leads the Christie Renal Oncology Service and undertakes a large number of clinical trials, Specialising in the delivery of high dose interleukin-2 as a potentially curative treatment for selected patients with renal cancer.

Professor Hawkins holds Memberships of Committees and Professional Bodies on the American Society for Gene Therapy (ASGT); International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer (ISBTC); British Association for Cancer Research (BACR); American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO); European Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (ESGCT) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Dr Richard Clayton is a Consultant Gynaecologist based at The Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Clayton studied and qualified in medicine at Leeds University. He is also accredited as a sub-specialty trained surgeon in gynaecological oncology. 

His research degree (MD) studied potential novel treatments for endometriosis and while doing his degree he was trained to an advanced level in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. 

He undertook fellowship training in gynaecological oncology and laparoscopy in Australia and gynaecological oncology in London (Barts and the Marsden). 

Dr Clayton is based at St Mary’s Hospital and The Christie Hospital, Manchester as a gynaecological surgical oncologist.  He is also a general gynaecologist and looks after patients with a variety of problems including abnormal smears, vulval disorders, menstrual problems, post-menopausal bleeding, ovarian cysts and endometriosis.

Dr Clayton is a member of the recently formed endometriosis centre at St Mary's Hospital and is also a member of Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The British Gynae Cancer Society, The International Gynae Cancer Society and The British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.

Mr Brett Winter-Roach is an NHS consultant Gynaecologist at the Christie Hospital, Salford Royal Foundation NHS Trust & Royal Bolton NHS Trust.

Mr Winter-Roach is anaccredited general gynaecologist and gynae-oncology specialist and specialises in Gynaecological oncology including treatment of endometrial, ovarian, cervical and vulval cancer. He also investigates Ovarian cysts including dermoid cysts, endometriomas, other benign cysts, borderline ovarian tumours and ovarian cancers (of which he is involved in with research). 

Other specialities include:

Colposcopy for the investigation and treatment of cervical abnormalities and abnormal cervical smears;

Menstrual problems including heavy or painful periods, irregular or absent periods;

Endometriosis: diagnosis and treatment;

Laparoscopic surgery including diagnostic laparoscopy and laparoscopic ovarian surgery and laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Mr Winter-Roach is a member of the following : British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, British Gynaecological Cancer Society, Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and a Member of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Anne Armstrong is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie in Manchester.

After qualifying from Bristol University in 1995 Dr Armstrong underwent specialist training at The Christie.  She was awarded a PhD from The University of Manchester in 2002 investigating the use of vaccines against cancer.

Anne was appointed as a consultant medical oncologist in 2007 at The Christie and subsequently as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester.

Dr Armstrong has an active roll in clinical research and is a member of the NCRN Breast Clinical Studies Group, and the NICE Familial Breast Cancer Guideline Development Group. She is the principal investigator for a number of clinical trials and also sits on the National Cancer Research Network breast clinical studies group.

Dr Adrian Bloor is a Consultant Haematologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Bloor qualified from Cambridge and University College London Hospital. He has been a consultant at The Christie since 2006 and is lead clinician for lymphoproliferative disorders, the haematology research team, and clinical director of the stem cell transplantation programme and The Christie’s Clinical Trials Coordination Centre.

Dr Bloor is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) trials subgroup, secretary to the executive committee of the UK CLL Forum and a member of the medical advisory panel to the Lymphoma Association. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester.

Mr Lester Barr is a Senior Consultant Breast Surgeon based in Manchester.

Lester has been a Consultant Surgeon working at the Christie Hospital and the University Hospital of South Manchester since 1996. His principle areas of expertise are the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and breast reconstruction surgery.

Mr Barr's research interest is breast cancer prevention, and he is Chairman of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention at the Genesis Prevention Centre in Manchester. He runs a diagnostic ‘one-stop’ breast clinic at Spire Manchester on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and a ‘Second Opinion’ clinic at the Christie Clinic on a Tuesday.

Dr Greg Wilson is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Wilson has interests in breast cancer, colorectal cancer and targeted liver therapies such as SIRT and ChemoSaturation.

He sees private patients at The Christie Clinic in Manchester, The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, The London Oncology Clinic and The Harley Street Clinic in London.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and after working as a junior doctor in the UK, spent four years in Australia, working firstly in General Medicine and then latterly at advanced trainee level in Medical and Radiation Oncology in Sydney. After returning to the United Kingdom, he completed Specialist Training in Medical Oncology at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds.  He was appointed to the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie Hospital, Manchester in 2002.

He is a senior member of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Groups at The Christie and is closely involved in the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Research Programmes and is principal investigator in national and international trials at The Christie.  

He has a particular interest in the treatment of complex secondary breast and bowel cancer.  He set up, and is Lead Clinician for the Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) service for secondary liver tumours and the targeted liver tumour programme at The Christie, the biggest contracted NHS/Private SIRT service in the UK.

He is an educational supervisor within the junior doctor programme and a lecturer in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes through the University of Manchester and The Christie NHS Trust.
