Dr Saifee Mullamitha

Dr Saifee Mullamitha is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Mullamitha graduated from the University of Bombay in 1995.  He has a dedicated specialist interest in the personalised management of early and advanced colorectal cancer. He is a lead principal investigator and co-investigator in a number of national as well as international clinical trials. Dr Mullamitha collaborates with a number of colleagues, especially liver surgeons and in areas where cyberknife might be a possibility. He has an interest in the liver directed approach e.g. selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT), irinotecan beads (DEBIRI), etc.

Mr Hassan Malik

Mr Hassan Malik is a Consultant Hepatobiliary Surgeon and Clinical lead for digestive surgery at University Hospital Aintree.

Mr Malik has introduced complex liver surgical techniques within the unit. These include vascular resections and the use of transplant techniques to facilitate liver resections. 

He has extensive experience having performed in excess of 450 liver resections. In addition he has an interest in retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery.

Mr Malik has also led development of an active research programme that has links to The University of Liverpool, The Liverpool CRUK Trials Unit, MRC centre for drug safety, Royal Liverpool University hospital, Clatterbridge and The Christie Oncology Hospitals. He is currently supervising a number of PhD and MD students and has in excess of 60 publications within his field of interest.

Mr Malik is also a member of the NCRN Hepatobiliary and Upper Gastrointestinal subgroup as well as honorary secretary to the British Association of Surgical Oncology. In addition he is an active participant in a number of professional associations .

Mr Charles Imber

Mr Charles Imber is a leading London Teaching Hospital Consultant as well as the Head of Service for Liver Transplantation, based at The Royal Free Hospital London, where he is a Consultant Surgeon in the areas of General and HPB Surgery.

Mr Imber completed his medical degree at Cambridge University, where he also received an honours degree in Oncology and Immunology.   Mr Imber is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is a leading expert in all areas of liver and pancreatic cancer performing major open and laparoscopic resections on a regular basis. He was the first surgeon in the UK to perform a robot assisted liver and pancreas resection for cancer at the Princess Grace Hospital. He speaks at International meetings and publishes articles on his research interests regularly including liver surgery for colorectal metastases, cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic resection for pancreatic cancer, as well as liver transplantation.

Dr Richard Hubner

Dr Richard Hubner is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Hubner received undergraduate medical training at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and completed specialist training in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Richard performed research into genetic susceptibility to cancer leading to a PhD, and this and other research has led to a number of publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and presentations at national and international meetings. Dr Hubner has been a consultant at the Christie Hospital since 2010.

Prof Aali J Sheen

Mr Aali Sheen is a Consultant Surgeon based at Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Sheen is the Clinical Director for General Surgery at Manchester Royal Informary. He trained as a General Surgeon in Manchester with a special interest in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He has a Specialised interest in Surgery for Colorectal Cancer Metastases to the Liver. He qualified in Medicine from the University of Dundee in 1993 and trained in London and Oxford.  Following Oxford he moved to Manchester in 1998. He completed his General Surgical training with advanced training in surgery for Cancers of the Liver and pancreas at Manchester Royal Infirmary and St. James University Hospital in Leeds where he gained experience in Liver Transplantation. Mr Sheen obtained a higher degree from the University of Manchester in 2003 for his thesis examining the use of Gene therapy for the treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases, for which he won an award at the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and he has many publications in this field and is presently involved in research activity in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Regional Liver/Pancreas unit based at MRI where he was appointed in 2005.

Mr Sheen works in a team with six other Consultant Surgeons providing comprehensive care for the complex treatment of diseases of the Liver and Pancreas with the support of a regional Hepatology and a 24 hour Vascular Radiology service. Mr Sheen is also involved in Teaching as the education lead for General Surgery with additional responsibilities as lead for Emergency Theatres for General Surgery as well as sitting on the Hospital at Night committee.

Mr Sheen's main clinical interests are diseases of liver, pancreas, gallbladder and biliary tree, laparoscopic surgery and hernia surgery and he is a leading expert in hernia surgery for which he resides on the council of the British hernia society as well as consulting for a global company. Mr Sheen is also a visiting Professor of Surgery at Baxter Global L.A California. He provides a fast track, seamless service for all patients who are referred suffering from ailments within his field including Gallstones, Weight loss, Jaundice, Pancreatitis, suspected cancer of the Liver and Pancreas and Abdominal symptoms/ pain.

Dr Greg Wilson

Dr Greg Wilson is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Wilson has interests in breast cancer, colorectal cancer and targeted liver therapies such as SIRT and ChemoSaturation.

He sees private patients at The Christie Clinic in Manchester, The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, The London Oncology Clinic and The Harley Street Clinic in London.

He graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1988 and after working as a junior doctor in the UK, spent four years in Australia, working firstly in General Medicine and then latterly at advanced trainee level in Medical and Radiation Oncology in Sydney. After returning to the United Kingdom, he completed Specialist Training in Medical Oncology at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds.  He was appointed to the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie Hospital, Manchester in 2002.

He is a senior member of the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Groups at The Christie and is closely involved in the Breast and Colorectal Cancer Research Programmes and is principal investigator in national and international trials at The Christie.  

He has a particular interest in the treatment of complex secondary breast and bowel cancer.  He set up, and is Lead Clinician for the Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) service for secondary liver tumours and the targeted liver tumour programme at The Christie, the biggest contracted NHS/Private SIRT service in the UK.

He is an educational supervisor within the junior doctor programme and a lecturer in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes through the University of Manchester and The Christie NHS Trust.
