Dr Raffaele Califano

Dr Raffaele Califano is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Califano has a special interest in thoracic malignancies and clinical cancer research and he is an active member of the Manchester Lung Cancer Group.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery, summa cum laude, from the University of Perugia (Italy) in 2003 and completed his Specialist Training in Medical Oncology in 2007. From 2008 to 2012, Dr Califano worked as Clinical Research Fellow with the Lung and Melanoma Team at The Christie where he trained in advanced trial design and management. Dr Califano has been an investigator for several phase I-III clinical trials in Lung Cancer and Melanoma, developing a particular interest for molecularly-driven clinical trials in advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Dr Califano serves as Chairman of the Young Oncologists Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and he is a member of the ESMO Educational Committee Steering Group. He is also a member of British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) and International Association of Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC)

Dr Califano is the author of several papers published in indexed peer-reviewed international journals, he acts as peer reviewer for a number of medical journals and he has been an invited speaker to several national and international oncology meetings.

Mr Piotr Krysiak

Mr Piotr Krysiak is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon based at University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Krysiac underwent his medical training in Poland, and following his post graduate training, he moved to England to complete his training. He has been a consultant thoracic surgeons at UHSM since 2002.

Dr Krysiak has a specialist interest in the surgical treatment of lung cancer by conventional and less invasive approaches and lung transplantation. 

Dr Krysiak also has interests in mediastinal disease, diseases of the pleura, trachea and bronchial stenting

Dr Niladri Ghosal

Dr Niladri Ghosal is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, Glan Clywd.

Dr Ghosal has had experience of working in other cancer centres which include The Christie in Manchester, Royal Preston Hospital and Saint James's University Hospital Leeds.  Dr Ghosal treats his patients in the best possible evidence based way and is guided by experience.  He is always available for open and detailed communications with his patients.

Dr Ghosal trained in Clinical Oncology at The Christie Hospital in Manchester and joined as a Consultant in North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre in 2010. 

He is the lead in Acute Oncology services in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, and his main interests are in advanced radiotherapy techniques such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) as well as combining chemotherapy with radiotherapy.

Dr Ghosal is also the lead for implementation of SABR in North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre. He offers all treatments for Breast, Lung and Brain Cancers.

Mr Mark Jones

Mr Mark Jones is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon based at The University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Trust.

Mr Jones is a member of a five consultant pure thoracic surgery team at UHSM.  He undertakes clinics at University Hospital of South Manchester, Fairfield Hospital in Bury, and at the Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle. 

He has close referral links with referring oncologists from the Christie Hospital, and from Pennine Acute Hospital Trust.

Mark's practice includes all aspects of thoracic surgical oncology. He has areas of interest in chest wall resection, and pulmonary metastasectomy.

Dr Hamid Sheikh

Dr Hamid Sheikh is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Sheikh took his position at Christie Hospital Foundation Trust in 2009 and is the Clinical Oncology Lead for upper GI cancer. Also at The Christie he is involved in UK research trials.

Dr Sheikh covers Lung Cancer services for the populations of Salford and East Cheshire and surrounding areas and offers intra-luminal brachytherapy service for treating tumours in airways.

Dr Sheikh speaks multiple lanuages including English, Urdu, Hindi.
