Mr Vijay Ramani

Mr Vijay Ramani is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

From 1999 Mr Ramani has been appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at University Hospital South Manchester and The Christie.

His speciality interest is in prostate, bladder, renal, testis and complex pelvic and retroperitoneal cancers. He is a member of the Northwest Robotic Group and has also been responsible for the introduction and advancement of robotic surgery at The Christie and regularly undertakes robot assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy on patients with localised adenocarcinoma prostate.

Mr Ramani's other specialist operations including radical cystectomy and neobladder reconstruction, partial nephrectomy for small renal tumours, radical nephrectomy and complex inferior vena cava surgery. Mr Ramani also undertakes surgery for testis cancer including primary orchidectomy and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection.

He is currently the Clinical Lead for Urology at University Hospital South Manchester and a Lecturer of the European School of Urology. He has given lectures both regional, nationally and internationally on Urological cancers and regularly recruits patients to trials through the specialist MDT set up. He also consults on the prostate and issues surrounding men’s health.

Dr Penny Kehagioglou

Dr Penny Kehagioglou is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Dr Kehagioglou graduated from Wales University Medical School with Honours. She trained in General Medicine in UK and subsequently did her specialty training in Clinical Oncology in London, Scotland and Athens. She obtained her CCT in Clinical Oncology in 2010 and at the same time, her MSc in Public Health and Health Management from the University of London. Her first clinical oncology consultant post was in Scotland, where she specialised in colorectal, breast and gynaecological malignancies, with her specialist clinical interest being gynaecological brachytherapy.

Dr David Bottomley

Dr David Bottomley is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at St James's Hospital in Leeds.

Dr Bottomley qualified in medicine at Westminster Hospital medical school in 1985. Dr Bottomley’s main interests are in prostate cancer. Since 1996 he and his team have been performing seed prostate brachytherapy and Leeds is the longest-established prostate brachytherapy centre in the UK. The team there has recently presented ten-year outcomes for patients undergoing this treatment. They are also highly experienced in performing High Dose Rate (HDR)( temporary) prostate brachytherapy using transrectal ultrasound guidance. Dr Bottomley and the team at Leeds serve as a teaching resource for both seed and HDR prostate brachytherapy and continue to run training courses on the subject.

Dr Carys Thomas

Dr Carys Thomas is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Kent Oncology Centre.

Dr Thomas trained at Jesus College, Cambridge and University College London, qualifying in 1998. Thereafter she gained general medical experience in London, and commenced her specialist oncology registrar posts training at University College Hospital, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. She obtained Fellowship to the Royal College of Radiologists in 2005.  She was awarded a clinical research fellowship in radiation oncology at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver, Canada, where she specialised in prostate brachytherapy and researching in breast cancer.  In 2007 Dr Thomas became a Consultant in East Kent and her main clinical interests are in the management of breast, urological (prostate, bladder and kidney) and gynaecological cancers. 

Dr Thomas has an interest in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapies. She has extensive experience of using highly technical radiotherapy, including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). 

Nationally she sits on the executive committee of the British Uro-oncology Group providing educational guidance on urological cancers. She is keen on education and has been the Royal College Tutor for oncology as well as Associate Professor to St George’s Medical School, Granada.

Dr Carys Thomas is also a member of The Royal College of Radiologist, The Royal College of Physicians, The European Society for Therapeutic Radiotherapy and Oncology, British Medical Association and the American Brachytherapy Society.

Dr James Wylie

Dr. James Wylie is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Wylie is an experienced oncologist practicing in urological cancers and sarcomas for over 10 years.  Having graduated from St Thomas’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 1990 he trained as a Clinical Oncologist at The Christie and then undertook a Clinical Fellowship at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

His urology interests are in prostate, bladder and early testis cancer treating patients with radiotherapy (external beam and brachytherapy), chemotherapy and hormone therapy.  Experienced in state of the art radiotherapy techniques he has also been responsible for setting up and developing the prostate brachytherapy service which is now one of the largest in the U.K.  He is currently an examiner for the final examination of the Royal College of Radiologists.
