Dr. James Wylie is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Wylie is an experienced oncologist practicing in urological cancers and sarcomas for over 10 years.  Having graduated from St Thomas’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 1990 he trained as a Clinical Oncologist at The Christie and then undertook a Clinical Fellowship at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

His urology interests are in prostate, bladder and early testis cancer treating patients with radiotherapy (external beam and brachytherapy), chemotherapy and hormone therapy.  Experienced in state of the art radiotherapy techniques he has also been responsible for setting up and developing the prostate brachytherapy service which is now one of the largest in the U.K.  He is currently an examiner for the final examination of the Royal College of Radiologists.  

Dr. Arun Bhaskar is a Consultant in Anaesthetics with a specific expertise in Pain Management at Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Dr Bhaskar completed his specialist training in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia from the Northwest Deanery, UK in 2006.  He started his consultant post at The Christie NHS Hospital, Manchester, one of the largest cancer hospitals in Europe.  He established the pain service alongside the existing palliative care service and developed a comprehensive cancer pain service.

Dr. Bhaskar’s special interests include complex pain including neuropathic pain, cancer pain, visceral & pelvic pain, pain interventions and neuromodulation.  He has also a special interest in opioid management in complicated cancer pain.  Dr. Bhaskar has been involved with several clinical trials in breakthrough cancer pain, neuropathic pain in cancer including chemotherapy-induced neuropathy and also in developing novel techniques for interventional treatment for complex cancer pain.  He has been a contributing author towards the British Pain Society’ s “Cancer Pain Management” document.  Dr. Bhaskar is on the faculty of many courses including the EFIC Pain school and lectures widely on pain management, authored many book chapters and journal articles and is also active in peer-reviewing pain journals, organizing various meetings and study days relating to pain medicine.   

Dr. Bhaskar is the current secretary of the World Society of Pain Clinicians and an elected member of the Council of the British Pain Society.  He is also an executive liaison of Interventional SIG, Neuropathic pain SIG and Cancer pain SIG of the British Pain Society.  He is also a council member of the Neuromodulation Society of UK & Ireland and also advises NICE on interventional procedures.  Dr. Bhaskar is also the immediate past-chair of the Northwest Pain Clinicians, UK and a member of the steering group of the Northern England Pain Society.  He is also a member of the palliative care training advisory committee for Royal College of Physicians and also a member of the joint working group of British Pain Society and Association of Palliative Medicine.  Dr. Bhaskar is also currently doing a PhD programme in Palliative Medicine at the University of Lancaster.

Dr Richard Hubner is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Hubner received undergraduate medical training at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and completed specialist training in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Richard performed research into genetic susceptibility to cancer leading to a PhD, and this and other research has led to a number of publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and presentations at national and international meetings. Dr Hubner has been a consultant at the Christie Hospital since 2010.

Dr Richard Berman is a Consultant in Palliative and Symptomatic Care based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Berman graduated in medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (University of London) in 1996. He initially became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2001, before joining a specialist training programme for palliative medicine (Royal College of Physicians) in 2002.

Dr Berman now practises as a consultant in palliative medicine, and is honorary senior lecturer and undergraduate tutor at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Europe’s largest cancer centre.

Dr Berman is Lead clinician and specialises in supporting patients undergoing cancer treatment, in particular providing expert management of pain and symptom problems. 

Dr Berman is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute (Palliative & Supportive Care clinical studies group), and is also Chair of the Christie patient experience committee. (PRiMa).

Dr Mike Dennis is a Consultant Haematologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Dr Dennis is the Clinical Director of the Haematology and Transplant unit at The Christie.

He qualified in medicine from the University of Dundee in 1991 and completed his physician’s training in Liverpool before undertaking his first haematology post in Australia. Dr Dennis returned to the UK and to his first appointment at The Christie in 1996 before completing his haematology training in Liverpool, including an MD from the University of Liverpool.

He was appointed Consultant Haematologist at The Christie in 2004. In 2013 he was appointed as the Manchester Cancer Pathway Director for Haematological Oncology. He is a member of the British Society for Haematology, the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Pathologists and the European group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

He is recognised as a national expert on myeloid disease, a member of both the acute myeloid leukaemia and myelodysplasia working groups of the National Cancer Research Network, responsible for the development of clinical trials and trial governance for international multicentre trials in the UK.

Mr Lester Barr is a Senior Consultant Breast Surgeon based in Manchester.

Lester has been a Consultant Surgeon working at the Christie Hospital and the University Hospital of South Manchester since 1996. His principle areas of expertise are the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and breast reconstruction surgery.

Mr Barr's research interest is breast cancer prevention, and he is Chairman of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention at the Genesis Prevention Centre in Manchester. He runs a diagnostic ‘one-stop’ breast clinic at Spire Manchester on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and a ‘Second Opinion’ clinic at the Christie Clinic on a Tuesday.

Mr John Leach is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Salford Royal Infirmary NHS Trust.

Mr Leach is Clinical Lead for Neurosurgery in Manchester and a member of the Salford Royal Neuro-Oncology MDT. He specialises in brain tumours (primary and metastatic) and spine tumours (metastatic and intradural). He has a particular interested in complex cervical spine surgery. He is a member of both the Society of British Neurosurgeons and the British Association of Spinal Surgeons.

Mr Leach was raised in Sydney, Australia and then moved to the UK to study medicine at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities. He was trained in Neurosurgery at the Radcliffe Infirmary Oxford, gaining further experience both The Royal Melbourne (Prof Andrew Kaye) and The Alfred (Prof Rosenfeld) Hospitals in Melbourne.

With expertise in both neurological microsurgery and spinal fusion, Mr Leach is ideally trained to deal with metastatic disease affecting the brain and whole spine.

Mr Aali Sheen is a Consultant Surgeon based at Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Sheen is the Clinical Director for General Surgery at Manchester Royal Informary. He trained as a General Surgeon in Manchester with a special interest in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He has a Specialised interest in Surgery for Colorectal Cancer Metastases to the Liver. He qualified in Medicine from the University of Dundee in 1993 and trained in London and Oxford.  Following Oxford he moved to Manchester in 1998. He completed his General Surgical training with advanced training in surgery for Cancers of the Liver and pancreas at Manchester Royal Infirmary and St. James University Hospital in Leeds where he gained experience in Liver Transplantation. Mr Sheen obtained a higher degree from the University of Manchester in 2003 for his thesis examining the use of Gene therapy for the treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases, for which he won an award at the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and he has many publications in this field and is presently involved in research activity in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Regional Liver/Pancreas unit based at MRI where he was appointed in 2005.

Mr Sheen works in a team with six other Consultant Surgeons providing comprehensive care for the complex treatment of diseases of the Liver and Pancreas with the support of a regional Hepatology and a 24 hour Vascular Radiology service. Mr Sheen is also involved in Teaching as the education lead for General Surgery with additional responsibilities as lead for Emergency Theatres for General Surgery as well as sitting on the Hospital at Night committee.

Mr Sheen's main clinical interests are diseases of liver, pancreas, gallbladder and biliary tree, laparoscopic surgery and hernia surgery and he is a leading expert in hernia surgery for which he resides on the council of the British hernia society as well as consulting for a global company. Mr Sheen is also a visiting Professor of Surgery at Baxter Global L.A California. He provides a fast track, seamless service for all patients who are referred suffering from ailments within his field including Gallstones, Weight loss, Jaundice, Pancreatitis, suspected cancer of the Liver and Pancreas and Abdominal symptoms/ pain.

Mr Gary Ross is a plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon offering a personalized service aimed at delivering the highest quality of care to patients. He is based in Manchester.

Having qualified in medicine at the University of Bristol he underwent a basic surgical training in Australia, Bristol and Plymouth before beginning a career in plastic surgery in 1997. Following experience in the plastic surgery units of Plymouth and Bristol he spent two years in the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, Glasgow as a head and neck fellow completing a higher doctorate (MD) in head and neck surgery. 

Following this he completed his speciality plastic surgery training programme in the North West leading to a further qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Plast) and subsequently the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). His fellowships have included the mentor international aesthetic surgery fellowship (King Edward V11 Hospital, Harley Street, London), the North West Aesthetic Fellowship (Chester,Liverool,Manchester) and a 1 year North American plastic surgery fellowship in Toronto (Canada) in head and neck and breast surgery. 

In 2007 Mr Ross took up a consultant post in the NHS in 2007 and having retired from the NHS in 2013 now provides plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic treatments from his private practice based at the BMI Alexandra in Cheadle.

Mr Ross is a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). He is currently a mentor for BAAPS and currently provides anatomical cadaveric workshops for aesthetic training. He has published extensively both nationally and internationally comprising over 50 peer reviewed articles and several book chapters. He has travelled extensively worldwide presenting over 200 times and has been a key note lecturer, moderator and course organiser for a number of international conferences and instructional courses. He is actively involved in teaching both undergraduate Medical Students and postgraduate Plastic Surgical Trainees through his role as honorary senior clinical lecturer. He has received widespread recognition for his charitable work including the provision of plastic surgery expertise following the Pakistan Earthquake through the Mobile International Surgical Teams charity.
