Mr Chellia Selvasekar is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Selvasekar qualified in Madras, India, followed by specialist registrar rotation in Manchester. He did two years’ full time clinical research at University College London on minimally invasive treatment in the management of dysplastic lesions, leading to an MD. Following this, Mr Selvasekar spent a year as an international clinical colorectal fellow at the world renowned Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA to gain experience in minimally invasive and complex colorectal surgery before completing his surgical training at The Christie Hospital. He is also an accredited colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme and offers regular diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies.

Mr Selvasekar established laparoscopic colorectal surgery at the Christie Hospital and at Leighton Hospital, has performed over 300 laparoscopic colorectal resections to date and offers surgical treatment for all aspects of general and colorectal surgery. He also visited the IRCAD centre in Strasbourg and the University of Chicago as a travelling fellow to gain experience in robotic colorectal surgery.

Mr Selvasekar is an ALSGBI recognised preceptor, training colorectal surgeons and specialist registrars in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, and is a national trainer for laparoscopic colorectal surgery through the DoH established LAPCO programme. He holds an honorary lecturer contract with the University of Liverpool and is a member of the faculty of trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on the surgical courses and is also an examiner for the MRCS.

Mr Selvasekar Introduced minimally invasive (Laparoscopic and Robotic) colorectal surgery at the Christie and the clinical chair for the Enhanced recovery programme and the patient safety committee. He is also the lead for the colorectal subgroup of the colorectal clinical subgroup at the Greater Manchester and Cheshire cancer network.

At the christie he is a full time colorectal surgeon participating in the management of complex colorectal, anal conditions and pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Dr Carys Thomas is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at the Kent Oncology Centre.

Dr Thomas trained at Jesus College, Cambridge and University College London, qualifying in 1998. Thereafter she gained general medical experience in London, and commenced her specialist oncology registrar posts training at University College Hospital, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, Royal Surrey Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. She obtained Fellowship to the Royal College of Radiologists in 2005.  She was awarded a clinical research fellowship in radiation oncology at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver, Canada, where she specialised in prostate brachytherapy and researching in breast cancer.  In 2007 Dr Thomas became a Consultant in East Kent and her main clinical interests are in the management of breast, urological (prostate, bladder and kidney) and gynaecological cancers. 

Dr Thomas has an interest in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapies. She has extensive experience of using highly technical radiotherapy, including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). 

Nationally she sits on the executive committee of the British Uro-oncology Group providing educational guidance on urological cancers. She is keen on education and has been the Royal College Tutor for oncology as well as Associate Professor to St George’s Medical School, Granada.

Dr Carys Thomas is also a member of The Royal College of Radiologist, The Royal College of Physicians, The European Society for Therapeutic Radiotherapy and Oncology, British Medical Association and the American Brachytherapy Society.

Dr Brian Magee is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Christie in Manchester.

Dr Magee qualified in medicine in 1980 and undertook Radiotherapy and Oncology training from 1983 to 1988 at the Christie, Manchester.

He was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie in 1988. Brian is co-chairman of The Christie’s breast disease group. His main clinical interest is radiotherapy for breast cancer patients. Dr Magee is also a member of breast cancer team University Hospital South Manchester and a member of breast cancer MDT .

Dr Anne Armstrong is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Christie in Manchester.

After qualifying from Bristol University in 1995 Dr Armstrong underwent specialist training at The Christie.  She was awarded a PhD from The University of Manchester in 2002 investigating the use of vaccines against cancer.

Anne was appointed as a consultant medical oncologist in 2007 at The Christie and subsequently as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester.

Dr Armstrong has an active roll in clinical research and is a member of the NCRN Breast Clinical Studies Group, and the NICE Familial Breast Cancer Guideline Development Group. She is the principal investigator for a number of clinical trials and also sits on the National Cancer Research Network breast clinical studies group.

Professor Andrew Baildam is a Consultant Breast Surgeon working in Manchester and London.

In 1993 Professor Baildam was appointed as Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to the Christie Hospital regional cancer centre and to the University Hospital of South Manchester. He has been at the core of developments in breast cancer surgery and reconstruction over the last years and has immense experience in the management of breast disease.

Professor Baildam was appointed as Professor of Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery in 2011 at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London. The majority of Professor Baildam’s career had previously been in Manchester. He trained in general surgery and surgical oncology and diverted into plastic and reconstructive breast surgery training at a time when cross-specialty training was radical. His MD thesis research was jointly between the Christie and the Middlesex, London, on the molecular biology of breast cancer. 

Professor Baildam has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers, chapters and articles. He jointly innovated the UK national breast oncoplastic surgery training fellowships set up in 2002. He is past President of BASO (British Association of Surgical Oncology), The Association for Cancer Surgery (2010-2012), and an interspecialty member of BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons). He chaired the BASO-BAPRAS Interface Group for three years.

Dr Adrian Bloor is a Consultant Haematologist based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Bloor qualified from Cambridge and University College London Hospital. He has been a consultant at The Christie since 2006 and is lead clinician for lymphoproliferative disorders, the haematology research team, and clinical director of the stem cell transplantation programme and The Christie’s Clinical Trials Coordination Centre.

Dr Bloor is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) trials subgroup, secretary to the executive committee of the UK CLL Forum and a member of the medical advisory panel to the Lymphoma Association. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester.

Dr Abbas Chittalia is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

After completing an undergraduate and postgraduate training in India Dr Chittalia migrated to the UK in 1999. He joined The Christie in 2001 and undertook his oncology training there from 2001 to 2006, where he was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist. Dr Chittalia specialises in the treatment of breast cancer. Dr Chittalia also provides palliative radiotherapy services for cancer related pain.

His aim is to ensure all patients receive the highest standard of care in a most efficient and timely manner. He is a member of the breast cancer disease orientated group at The Christie and attends regular national and international meetings to stay informed on all developments in cancer care.
