Dr Paula Wells is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Barts NHS Trust.

Dr Wells' oncology training was undertaken at St. Bartholomew’s, UCLH and Mount Vernon Hospitals.  Following her Fellowship, she undertook a postgraduate research degree at Imperial College School of Medicine, Hammersmith Hospital. There she investigated the potential for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to demonstrate the biological effects of chemotherapy in tissue. She has published a number of papers in this area and was awarded a PhD for her work. Subsequently she completed her post doctoral training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, principally with the Academic Urology Unit.

Dr Paula Wells specialises in the management of patients with genitourinary (bladder and prostate) and thoracic (lung and mesothelioma) malignancies. Furthermore Dr Wells has expertise in the delivery of real time dynamic prostate brachytherapy for patients with early stage, localised prostate cancer.

Dr Paul Ross is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, where he is Clinical Lead for Chemotherapy and he also consults from King’s College Hospital.  He was appointed Consultant in 2004.

Dr Ross graduated from Guy’s hospital, London after training at the Royal Marsden Hospital and complered a PhD at the institute for cancer research. 

He treats patients with colorectal cancer, oesophago-gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, malignancies of the bile duct and gall bladder (cholangiocarcinoma) and primary liver cancer (hepatocellular cancer). In addition Dr Ross treats patients with neuroendocrine (carcinoid) tumours. He is focused on treating patients with cancer with chemotherapy and biological therapies. He has an interest in the use of locoregional therapies for liver tumours including SIRT.

Dr Ross is a member of the London Cancer New Drugs, which advises on the introduction of new drugs throughout the London area and their prioritisation.. He is Treasurer of the Association of Cancer Physicians of the United Kingdom. He is also a member of the advanced disease subgroup of the NCRI Colorectal Clinical Studies Group. 

He has been awarded the McElwain Prize, Association of Cancer Physicians in 2002 and previously in 2001 he was awarded the ASCO Merit Award, American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr Nick Reed is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Cheltenham General Hospital.

Dr Reed qualified in Southampton and worked as a junior doctor in Winchester, Portsmouth and Cheltenham. Further experience in medicine was gained working in Belize and New Zealand.

He underwent his Oncology training on the Wessex training scheme, working in Southampton, Poole and Portsmouth. Prior to his consultant appointment, he spent one year as a research fellow in Radiation Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, Melbourne where he furthered his interest in gastro-intestinal radiotherapy.

Dr Reed is a member of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Dr Martin Hogg is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital (Lancaster Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

Dr Hogg qualified from Oxford University in 1990 having developed a particular interest in Oncology. In additional to his medical studies, he took a degree in physiological sciences specialising in cellular physiology, biology and immunology as well as undertaking some undergraduate research work developing a novel technique for assessing reflux of ions across cell membranes. He continued his medical studies at St Bartholomews Medical School in London qualifying in 1993 as a doctor from the University of London. 

Continuing in Oncology, his first position was in the field of leukaemia and lymphoma working under Professor Rohitiner and Professor Lister at Barts, London. Following general medical training as a Senior House Officer in the Leicestershire rotation he moved to the Christie Hospital in Manchster as a Specialist Registrar in Oncology.

During his time at the Christie he obtained a wealth of experience in treating all tumours using the treatment modalities of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During his time, he undertook some research including phase one research for new chemotherapy treatment regime in colorectal cancer and in the management of central lines. He has had abstracts presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting and has co-authored a chapter on the management of cancer of the stomach. 

In the latter part of his training he developed a particular interest in breast and gynaecological malignancies. 

He was appointed Consultant at the Rosemere Cancer at Royal Preston Hospital in 2003 and was closely involved in the reconfiguration of the management of breast and gynaecological malignancies.

He is continuing to work to improve the standards of oncological care in those areas addressing issues that are reflected in the North West Cancer Plan and the Cancer Reform strategy such as developing the provision of local administration for chemotherapy, as close to the patients home as possible and access to high quality image guided radiotherapy. 

He is currently Lead Clinician for breast cancer at the Rosemere Cancer Centre and Clinical Director of the centre. He has also been Chair of the Breast Cancer Network Site Specific Group for many years. In addition to the standard clinical roles he has run a conference for numberous years, for Breast Care Nurses in the North of England, offering updates and education. 

He has worked closely with Dr Louise Foreman, a palliative care consultant colleague and has set up a National palliative Care Conference aimed at providing an Oncological update for palliative care consultants and specialist registrars. 

Dr Hogg also leads Lancashire and South Cumbria Network in the Tri-network Meetings along with the Mersey and Greater Manchester groups and in 2008 organised and chaired the Tri-Network Meeting.

He Speaks two Languages, English and French and has been Awarded a Undergraduate Orthopedics Prize.

Dr Marcus Wise is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at The Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston.

Dr Wise qualified at Manchester Medical School in 1990.  After training in general medicine and surgery he took up a registrar post in oncology at the Christie Hospital.

He has extensive experience in a wide range of tumour sites involving use of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with a special interest in lower gastrointestinal, urological (including renal carcinoma) and upper gastrointestinal.

He was appointed to a Consultant post at Royal Preston Hospital, Rosemere Cancer Centre, with peripheral clinics at Blackburn and Burnley in 2002. 

Dr Khizar Hayat is a Consultant Clinican Oncologist based at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in The Wirral.

Dr Hayat completed his PhD in Tumour Immunology at University of Sheffield in 1992. In 1994 he started training in Clinical Oncology in Merseyside, Northwest England, gaining a consultant post in 1999. 

Dr Hayat manages early and advanced breast cancer offering a range of treatments, including systemic chemotherapy and targeted therapies.

He was recently appointed Regional Speciality Advisor for Royal College of Radiologists and has a keen interest in teaching and training, being the programme director for Clinical Oncology since 2007 and FRCR part 2 Examiner since 2010.

Dr Kate Fife is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist based at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. She was appointed in 2001.

Dr Fife trained in medicine at St George’s Hospital in London and went on to train in oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She carried out clinical research in HIV related malignancies whilst a research fellow at Chelsea and Westminster, and Charing Cross Hospitals and completed an MD in angiogenesis related laboratory research in 1998. She completed her oncology training at the Hammersmith Hospital. Subsequently she was a locum Consultant and research fellow at the Sydney Cancer Centre and Sydney Melanoma Unit, carrying out further laboratory and clinical research.

Together with Prof Tim Eisen and Dr Athena Matakidou, she runs a large research focussed renal cancer clinic, seeing approximately 130 new patients per year, making it one of the largest specialist centres for this cancer in the UK.  Her other interests are skin malignancies and lung cancer. She treats basal cell and squamous cell cancers of the skin and metastatic melanoma with radiotherapy and patients with rare skin cancers, cutaneous lymphomas and Kaposi’s sarcoma. She is also interested in training and is an educational supervisor.

She is a member of the National Cancer Research Institute Renal Cancer Studies Group and has a frequent attendance and presentations at National and International meetings. 

Dr Joseph Azzopardi is a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia based at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

Dr Azzopardi graduated from the University of Malta in 1993. He commenced training in Ireland and subsequently undertook higher specialist training in London at The Barts and The London School of Anaesthesia and other associated hospitals. He was a visiting fellow in Regional Anaesthesia in Sweden and in 2002 undertook a two-year fellowship in Pain Medicine in Australia.

Dr Azzopardi is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists UK. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2004. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists since 2007.

In addition to his expertise in degenerative spine disease, which includes the management of back and neck pain, arm pain and sciatica; he has expertise in Cancer Pain Management and Symptom Control. 

His specialist interests include Interventional Pain Management, Advanced Radiofrequency Ablation Pain Therapies and Neuromodulation (Spinal Cord Stimulation & Neuro-axial Drug Delivery).

Dr Azzopardi also provides Medico-Legal specialist reports and accepts instructions for defendant and claimant personal injury work.  

Dr Azzopardi was appointed as Consultant in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia in Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in 2005. Since taking up his post he has been actively involved with the development of Multidisciplinary Integrated Cancer Pain Services at Guys and St.Thomas' Foundation Trust.

Dr Azzopardi has a keen interest in Medical Education and sits on the London Deanery Pain Training Advisory Group Committee. He is the Educational Supervisor for Advanced Pain Training.

His anaesthetic interests include Difficult Airway Anaesthesia, Regional Anaesthesia and Anaesthesia in the Developing World. He has been the lead anaesthetist on numerous charity missions in Ethiopia with Facing Africa and Project Harar.

In addition to his regular consulting days at the London Bridge Hospital, The Wellington Hospital and Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth, Dr Azzopardi is also available to see urgent patients within 24 hours.

Dr Joanna Gale is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at The Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Gale treats urological cancers and breast cancer. She trained in Batchelor of Medicine at Southampton University Medical School in 1990 and Doctor of Medicine Southampton University in 2001.

Dr Gale is a member of the Royal College Physicians and a Fellow Royal College Physicians.

Dr Jeremy Braybrooke is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation trust.

Dr Baybrook completed his undergraduate training at Southampton University and in Medical Oncology at the Cancer Research UK Medical Oncology unit in Oxford. During this time he completed a PhD, supervised by Professor Adrian Harris and Professor Ian Hickson, studying DNA damage and repair. He was appointed to his current consultant post in Bristol in 2003 and has developed a large patient focused clinical practice and is passionate about clinical research and improving patients' experience of chemotherapy treatments. He is actively involved in fund-raising for 'Above and Beyond' and 'It's in the Bag' charities improving awareness of testicular cancer.

Dr Braybrooke has been a member of the NICE Lung Cancer Clinical Guideline Development Group and currently sits on a NICE Technology Appraisal Committee evaluating new medicines. He is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and was a member of the National Cancer Research Network Testicular Cancer Clinical Studies Group (2005 - 2010) and was Chair of Avon Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Network Breast Cancer Site Specific Group (until April 2010)
